How to Make a Tres Leche Cake!

Flan recipe

One of the best postres of all time is the postre de tres leche, or three milk cake. It’s a heavenly, sumptuous dessert you’ll absolutely love. If you haven’t already tried it, here’s a tres leches cake recipe you absolutely have to make.

Get Things Ready.

You’re going to need some ingredients before you make any postres, right? So grab two cups of flour (and then some for the pan), one tablespoon of baking powder, nine eggs (with the yolks separated), two cups of sugar, one third cup of milk, a teaspoon of vanilla, one can of sweetened condensed milk, one can of evaporated milk, three cups of heavy cream, and two tablespoons of lime juice.

Before you start doing any mixing, preheat the oven to 375°F, butter a 9″x13″ baking pan, and dust it with flour.

Get Going.

In a medium bowl, you’re going to want to whisk the two cups of flour and baking powder. Set that aside, and put six egg whites into a large bowl. Beat them with a mixer until they’re frothy, and then begin slowly adding a cup of sugar as you continue to beat the eggs. Then, add the six yolks, one at a time, mixing them until it’s even. Continue mixing things, and begin alternating between adding some of the flour mix, and egg mix, until it’s all mixed together. Throw the vanilla in, too. Pour the postres’ mixture into the baking pan, and bake it for about half an hour. Let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Get the Milks Ready.

While the cake is baking, the milks and the heavy cream into a bowl, transferring about half of it to a saucepan. Bring it to a boil. Then, remove it from the heat and add the rest of the milk mixture.

Once you have that, poke some holes in the cake with a fork, and pour your milk mixture over it, allowing the cake to absorb it all. Cover it, put it in the fridge, and let it chill for one hour.

Get the Meringue Going.

While your cake is in the fridge, use your leftovers — the cup of sugar, the egg whites, and the lime juice — to make a nice merginue. Whisk it all together, until stiff peaks form, which should take about five minutes. Spread it on top of the cake and enjoy!

While there are certainly many other, delicious postres out there, tres leches cake is arguably the king. Sure, postres like flan or tarta are great and all, but you simply can’t those postres simply can’t stack up to the decadence of tresh leche cake.
